Michael Jackson / Roy Orbison added to registry

WASHINGTON - May 14, 2008
Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album is considered important enough to keep for all time.
It's among the 25 recordings added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry, which preserves recorded works that are considered culturally or historically important.
This year's additions include "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison and "The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.
Joni Mitchell's "For the Roses" album has been added, as has the original cast recording of "My Fair Lady."
The recordings aren't all music.
Others that have been added this year include the first Trans-Atlantic broadcast from 1925, Harry Truman's speech to the 1948 Democratic Convention and the "Sounds of Earth" disc prepared for the Voyager spacecraft in 1977.

  1. Wow that's amazing. I never knew how important Roy Orbisons music was/is.
I always thought I was just eccentrically selective in my musical tastes.
It's nice to know that my taste is nationally recognized.
Roy Orbisons music has been forever been engraved in my heart.

  3. And 20 years on, Sharon Stone proved that she's still got what it takes to turn heads as she arrived at Christian Dior in Paris yesterday.

The actress, now 54, looked sensational as she arrived at the French fashion house HQ.

Sexy: Sharon Stone proved she's still got it as she arrived at the Christian Dior HQ in Paris in a very plunging black dress

She wore a below-the-knee black dress which complemented her slender figure, the thin gold belt showing off her tiny waist. Cheap Karen Millen

She teamed the dress with strappy black heels which added length to her legs and a black handbag.

But it was her plunging neckline that drew the most attention, her cleavage looking rather perky for a woman of her age.

Youthful: Sharon does not look 54 and would give any woman half her age a run for their money

Sharon is in the French capital for Paris Couture Week and earlier in the day was spotted at the Dior catwalk show sitting next to rising star Jennifer Lawrence.

And again, all eyes were on Sharon, even though her outfit was nowhere near as daring at her evening one.

She wore a long black velvet maxi dress with a halterneck which made her look very chic and sophisticated.

And speaking at one of the events, she said she enjoys a mix-and-match wardrobe, teaming expensive designer gear with high street fashion.

Speaking to WWD, she said: 'I think people did that a lot in the beatnik era, which was something that I've always thought was a beautiful time in fashion. I think that it's happened many times, people did that in the Twenties. We take classic things and take them with things that are happening currently in culture, but we reinvent them.'
